Arab discrimination, or anti-arabism, has seen a huge uprise in numbers in the last decade.  A big part of this is due to the events of 9/11.  In fact, a poll that was taken by the Arab-American Institute stated that of the people polled, %20 claim that they have experienced some form of discrimination since 9/11.  Along with the increase in discrimination comes an increase in hate crimes directed at Arabs.  The number of hate crimes increased from 354 in the year 2000, to 1,501 in 2001.  In fact there could be many more due to the fact that many of the hate crimes were not classified as such by authorities, and instead just classified as normal crimes.  Many of the people who committed these hate crimes claim that they did it as revenge for 9/11.

According to polls taken across the country, people were asked what they thought of when they heard the work Arab, and many of them said terrorist.  This is thanks in large to the events of 9/11.  Because of this Arabs are facing more and more discrimination, especially when it comes to the airport.  As more and more Arabs are selected for these "random" security checks, people start to question just how random they really are.
